RECREATION AT THE BEST CENTER

This courtyard is a good place for practicing soccer kicking as well as keep away and other games using a ball.  The students also use a badminton racket to hit a birdie across the courtyard.  All are welcome to join and it is good exercise.  All of the motorcycles and bicycles are also parked at one end of this area.  The BEST center has a van and a pickup that are used for center outings and trips that usually happen annually.  We can see relationships built among the students here.

Julie becomes 'grandmother' to the young children belonging to staff here.  She reads to them frequently.  This room is used for study as well as reading to children.  It is just outside the office for the Center where Julie spends much time in study as well as business for the Center.  This large room is also the room that is used for meals.  You should see the cooperation in setting up tables and chairs and taking them down again.  That is followed by sweeping and mopping the floor.  You know the BEST CENTER stands for; Bible, English, Study, and Training Center.  The students learn cooperation, cleaning, cooking, organization, study skills, etc.

Each Friday Tom and I plan an 'extra' activity beyond English study.  On this particular day, following their Vocabulary Test, we taught them to play LCR (Left, Right, Center).  They learned some new words and had a good time.  Since we have found that many of them have difficulty telling time on a non-digital clock, we also timed each game and they had to use the wall clock to tell us what time it was.  On another Friday we studied 'Families', which included animal families and their names, human families and the Family of God.  Then we gave them a piece of paper with the title "Part of God's Family".  They were given a week to find as many English words as possible using only the letters in the Title.  They had never done anything like that before.  Several came up with over 80 words.

The Center also has a Ping-Pong table available that is stored in the garage.  It is played some as well.

A few years ago we brought Rummy Cube.  They play that as well.  Jenga is also another favorite (stacking blocks and seeing who can last the longest in removing them.)  Uno is another one they like.  They also play a card game that we have not figured out.  All of the games are primarily weekend activities.
