MEAL TIME AT THE BEST CENTER

Meal time at the Best Center is a group activity.  All students and staff are expected to join the group.  It is a time for announcements and conversations together.  Tom and I enjoy that time as well.  We get to know our students better and they are good to speak English with us, although for some it is a challenge.
Meals are always served buffet style and we use these bowls and a tablespoon (as I would call it in the US).  Rice is always on the menu usually served with soup, stir fry vegetables (with a little meat), fresh vegetables and sometimes fresh fruit.  The menu varies but these are the primary ingredients.  On special meals we are served whole pieces of chicken or fish which has been fried and is delicious.  Avy is our excellent cook.
We enjoy our meals here.

This family is a big part of life at the Center.  Piseth manages much of the office business.  He also teaches Bible to the students who life here, in their own language.
Sokneang (his wife) delivered their second girl (Raksmey) about a moth ago.  Raisney (big sister) loves that sister.  They live at the Center as well.
This was February 14 so Tom and I decided to provide flowers for the table.  The students seemed very impressed as it really dress up the table.  We also wrote notes on Valentine Cards for each of the students and staff.  While Cambodia does not celebrate this holiday we wanted to share a little US culture.

Before each meal all students and staff read from the Bible.  They read a chapter, with each student and staff reading a verse until the chapter is completed.  They do not ask us to read, but we do follow along as we can keep track of the verses being read.  Leviticus was just completed and Numbers has begun.  This is in addition to their daily Bible Studies with staff and some memory work that is done.
