A FEW INTERESTING THINGS
The new location for the BEST CENTER still provides a good location for Thursday night meals together for everyone from here as well as those from the Cambodia Bible Institute and other Christians in the city. Awy, the cook from the BC prepares a simple meal and all eat together. The meal our first night here was chicken/rice/noodle porridge with soft bread sticks. It is one of my favorites. The students help prepare, serve and clean up after this meal. You can see that these rooms are well used. In the mornings this room is used for staff to teach students the Bible.
Following the meal the tables and chairs are moved into a large circle and we all enjoy singing together. Some of the songs are solely Khmer language. We English speakers have an English song book and when the chosen song is also in English the students are so good to let us know the page number in our books. We all sing together.
The bonds that are formed through this group are strong. They help each other. They are very responsible in performing their individual chores. They have made us feel like part of their group!
Tom and I do a lot of walking the neighborhood while in Phnom Penh. We noticed this street side coffee shop and stopped for some iced coffee. These 2 ladies were making crispy rollups. The lady to the right had 5 irons on top of 5 charcoal heated cookers. She poured a white thin batter onto the opened iron, turned it, then when done opened the iron and pulled out the flat soft crepe like object with her gloved hand and tossed them up to the other woman. The second woman rolled the 'crepes'. They cooled quickly and became crispy. They are quite good. In you will notice the table by the street has cone shaped ones that are also crispy. If you can enlarge the photo this will be easier to see. This is the first time I had seen these.
