WORSHIP AT WATCHERAPON CHURCH OF CHRIST
Several years ago Tom and I came to Bangkok, Thailand to teach with the Let's Start Talking program. We worked with this congregation teaching English using the Bible. We have been wanting to return here and had the opportunity this year. There have been some changes, but we also saw much that was familiar.
When we contacted Tuli, who we had worked with directly earlier. He invited us to stay in their home. What a joy to visit with him and Nui and their daughter, Lili.
As worship time approached we met so many that we had known before. Some were from Ramkamheang Christian Center where we also taught. The congregation has grown.
There were two obvious changed. Earlier the building was open air, with only front and back walls. Now it is enclosed. The curtains are covering sliding glass doors that can be opened when desired. The second is the pews. Before the auditorium used stacking chairs.
The building is built over a body of water with a walk extending to the land and parking lot. There is a wide walkway on the outside that leads to other buildings which are used for classrooms and for a preacher training school. That has not changed much in 8 years or so. As we arrived we saw people sitting around outside studying and visiting.
After worship classes were held, to the right Ann is teaching some of the University Students in English. They are all Thai students who participate in the Ramkamhaeng University Christian Center and come to this congregation on Sundays. We will see them this week at the Center as Tuli will take us there.
It is soo good seeing all that is happening with this congregation and renewing friendships.
Following the Bible Classes the congregation has potluck dinners on the 2nd and 4th Sundays. We were happy to be here on the 4th Sunday. As you can see there is not a lack of food. The dishes are different than I would see at home, but we enjoy Asian food. There was rice (of course), casserole type dishes, stir fry, fresh vegetable medley, and several fresh fruits to choose from. We do have to watch however as Thai dishes can contain some VERY hot peppers that can be very uncomfortable for us.
The hospitality here is very gracious. We are so happy that we had this opportunity to be here.
